SECTION 42 – Killing Locusts by a Pilgrim

Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “The locust is like sea game.”
COMMENTARY
Maimun ibn Jaban is present in its chain of narration, and hadiths transmitted by him are not considered valid evidence. The prohibited game for a pilgrim is land game, not sea game. Yet, here the locust is deemed to be of the type of sea game.

Abū Hurayrah, may Allah be pleased with him, narrated:
We encountered a swarm of locusts, and one of us, in ihram, was striking them with his whip. Someone said to him, “What you are doing is not right.” He then mentioned this to the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ. Thereupon the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ, said, "Indeed, the locust is a type of sea creature."
Abū Dāwūd said: The narrator among the narrators, Abū Muḥāzzim, is weak (in both this and the preceding hadith), and both hadiths are unsound.

Ka'b, may Allah be pleased with him, narrated:
"The locust is considered among sea creatures."
