FASTING CHAPTER · 61 – FASTING DURING THE TEN DAYS OF DHUL HIJJAH

It is related that one of the wives of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said:
The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, would fast on the nine days of Dhul-Hijjah, the tenth day (of Muharram), and every month on the first Monday and Thursday.

It is narrated from Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with him:
The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: “The days most beloved to Allah are the first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah.”
The companions asked: "O Messenger of Allah, does striving in the way of Allah not attain the same rank as those days?"
The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, replied: “Striving in the way of Allah does [attain that rank]. Except for one who undertakes it with his person and property and neither returns with his person nor his property.”
