SECTION ON FASTING · 20 – THE RECOMMENDATION OF HASTENING TO BREAK THE FAST

2353 – It is narrated from Abū Hurayra (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of God (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “The religion of Islam will continue to prevail as long as people hasten to break the fast, for the Jews and Christians delay breaking the fast.” [267]

2354 – It is narrated from Abī ʿAṭiyya (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: Masrūq and I went to ʿĀʾisha (may Allah be pleased with her). We said: O Mother of the Believers, one of the two men from the Companions (ṣaḥāba) of the Messenger of God (peace and blessings be upon him) hastens in breaking the fast and in prayer, while the other delays breaking the fast and prayer. ʿĀʾisha (may Allah be pleased with her) asked: Which of them hastens in breaking the fast and prayer? We said: ʿAbdullah. ʿĀʾisha (may Allah be pleased with her) said: That is how the Messenger of God (peace and blessings be upon him) used to do. [268]
