JIHAD SECTION · 163 – THE STATE PRESIDENT (IN WAR AND PEACE) IS A SHIELD TO BE SOUGHT REFUGE WITH

Abu Hurayra, may Allah be pleased with him, narrated:
The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings upon him, said: “Indeed, the imam is a shield. [One] enters combat with him (by obeying his command).”

Abu Rafi reported that he said:
The Quraysh sent me to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him.
When I saw the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, Islam was cast into my heart. I said, “O Messenger of Allah, I swear by Allah, I will never return to them (the Quraysh).” The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, "I do not break a covenant, nor do I oppress envoys. But return; if you find within yourself what was in you at that time, then return.”
He said: I went to (the Quraysh). Then I came to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, and became Muslim.
Bukayr said: Hasan ibn Ali told me that Abu Rafi’ was a Qibti (a slave).
Abu Dawud said: This ruling was valid during the lifetime of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him. It is not suitable for today.
