FUNERALS SECTION · 77 – THE DISLIKEDNESS OF SITTING UPON GRAVES



3228 – It is narrated from Abū Hurayra (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of God (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “For one of you to sit upon a burning coal that burns through his garment to his skin is better for him than to sit upon a grave.” [126]


3229 – It is narrated from Abū Mersad al-Ghanawī (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of God (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Do not sit upon graves and do not pray facing towards graves.” [127]
EXPLANATION
It is disliked (makruh) to sit upon graves without necessity. It is also disliked to pray facing towards graves without a barrier (sutra) in between.
