Marriage Section · 19 – What a Man May Look At of the Woman He Wants to Marry
Jabir ibn Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated:
The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings upon him) said: “When one of you acts as a matchmaker for a woman, if he has the ability to look at the parts of her that would entice him to marry her, then let him do so.”
Jabir said: I acted as a matchmaker for a girl, I hid myself and looked at her face (the part that invites one to marriage) and married her to myself. [105]
**EXPLANATION:**
A man may look at the face and hands of the woman he intends to marry, but he may not look at parts which are forbidden to be seen, even if the girl permits it.
*Etahabbeü:* This means "I used to hide."
