Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrated:

During the time of prosperity, a group of bedouins arrived (in Medina) during the time when the sacrificial animals were being prepared. Thereupon the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings upon him) said, "Leave for yourselves three days’ meat, and distribute the rest."

Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) said: When the next Eid came after that one, people were benefiting from their sacrifices, melting the fat from them and extracting it. They were making water bags from the skins. So they mentioned this to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings upon him).

The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings upon him) said, "What is wrong with that?" Or he said something similar. The people then said, “O Messenger of Allah, you forbade us from eating the meat of sacrificial animals for more than three days.”

The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings upon him) said, “I only forbade you because of the poor group who raided upon you. Eat, distribute, and store as you wish.” [541]

EXPLANATION

*Düffe*: It is the walking of a group with heavy steps. The permission to eat sacrificial meat for more than three days after it was initially forbidden has led most scholars to rule that the previous prohibition has been abrogated (repealed).

Narrated by Nubaisa ibn Maymūn, may Allah be pleased with him:

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “We forbade you from eating the meat of sacrificial animals after three days, so that it would suffice for you. But now Allah has bestowed abundance and you have distributed [it]. Retain some of it [for charity] and gain reward. Be mindful! These are days of eating, drinking, and remembering the Noble and Exalted Allah.” [542]

COMMENTARY:

This honorable hadith is evidence that fasting is not permissible on the days when Takbirat al-Tasbih (the Eid takbirs) are recited. For those days are days of feasting from our Lord to His believing servants. Fasting on those days would be rejecting this feast.

Nubaisa ibn Maymun, may Allah be pleased with him: He narrated from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. From among his narrators are Abu al-Mughira al-Huzali and Umm Asim. (Tahdhib at-Tahdib, vol. 10, p. 417)
