SECTION ON INHERITANCE • 11 – THE RULING REGARDING THE INHERITANCE OF ONE WHO BELIEVED BEFORE THE DISTRIBUTION OF THE INHERITANCE
It is narrated from Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: “Every division made during the time of ignorance remains as it was divided. And every division which Islam has reached is treated according to the division of Islam.” [608]
**Explanation:** If a property was distributed according to the customs of ignorance before Islam, then after the advent of Islam, it remains on that same distribution. But any property which came into existence before Islam without being divided will be distributed according to Islamic principles.
