The Section of Nezirlers · 10 – The Situation of a Person Who Swears They Will Not Eat Katık

Yusuf ibn Abdullah ibn Salam, may Allah be pleased with him, related:
I saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings upon him) place a date upon a piece of bread and said, “This is sustenance for this.” [144]
**Explanation:**
The honorable hadith indicates that anything other than bread found in the home is a supplement to it.
According to Imam al-A’zam: Every substance spread on bread, such as plain oil or olive oil, is a supplement. That which is not spread on bread is not a supplement. If someone vows not to eat supplements and then consumes something like oil spread upon bread, their vow is broken. However, if they consume something that is not considered a supplement, their vow remains intact.

It was narrated that it is related as in the preceding narration.
