SECTION ON ZAKAT • 6 – THE COLLECTOR'S PRAYER TO THE OWNER OF ZAKAT

Abdullah ibn Abi Aufa, may Allah be pleased with him, related:
My father was among those at the Tree of Ridwan. When a group brought zakat to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, he would say, “O Allah, have mercy on the family of so-and-so.”
My father also brought his zakat to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said concerning my father, “O Allah, forgive the family of Abi Aufa.” [449]
**Note:** This honorable hadith serves as evidence that supplications (salawat) can be offered for others besides prophets, because the most excellent of mankind, the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, made supplication for the family of Abi Aufa.
