– Volume 3 – 74 – Matters the Imam Will Address in the Sermon at Mina
It is narrated on the authority of Abdurrahman bin Muaz at-Taymi, may Allah be pleased with him, that he said:
The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, delivered a sermon to us in Mina. Our hearing was so acute that we could hear him while we were in our encampment. He began to teach the companions the rites of Hajj. Then, to make his voice reach further, he placed the tips of his index fingers into his earlobes and said, “Throw pebbles the size of chickpeas.” Afterwards, he ordered the Muhajirun (emigrants) and they positioned themselves in front of the mosque. He ordered the Ansar (helpers), and they positioned themselves behind the mosque. Then the rest of the people descended and settled. [26]
**Note:** *Hazif stone* refers to a small pebble, about the size of a chickpea. Some pilgrims’ actions while performing this obligation are incorrect, as some use their shoes and others throw stones the size of fists, believing they are doing something better in worship. However, the most appropriate conduct in acts of worship is to follow the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him.
