The Chapter of Corpse · 45 – The Virtue of Performing and Attending the Funeral Prayer
Abū Hurayrah, may Allah be pleased with him, narrated:
A person follows a funeral procession and performs the prayer over it, then for him is one qirāt of reward. And whoever follows it until the burial, then for him are two qirāts of reward. He (peace and blessings upon him) said that these qirāts are as small as Mount Uhud, or one of them is as Mount Uhud.
According to the narration of Amir bin Sa'd bin Abi Waqqas:
He was once in the company of Ibn Umar when Habban came out into the courtyard of the house where they were assembled and said, “O Abdullah bin Umar, have you not heard what Abu Hurayra has said?”
Abu Hurayra had reported that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Whoever accompanies a funeral procession from its home and performs the funeral prayer…" then he mentioned the meaning of a previous narration by Sufyan.
Ibn Umar had sent news to Lady Aisha regarding this matter. Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) said, “Abu Hurayra spoke truthfully.”
From Ibn ‘Abbas, may Allah be pleased with him:
The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings upon him, said: “Whenever a Muslim dies and forty individuals who associate nothing with Allah in worship pray over his body, their intercession will surely be accepted for him.” [86]
