2869 – It is narrated from Ibn ʿAbbās (may Allah be pleased with him): Allah the Exalted said, “Prescribed for you, when death approaches [any] one of you if he leaves wealth, is that he should make a bequest for the parents and near relatives according to what is acceptable—a duty upon the God-conscious (muttaqīn).” (Surah al-Baqara, 180) Thus, the bequest was made obligatory. This verse was abrogated by the inheritance verses (Surah al-Nisāʾ, 11–12).
