The Chapter of Nezirs – 6: The Undesirability of Swearing by a Deposit

Abdullah ibn Buraydah, from his father, Buraydah, may Allah be pleased with him, narrated:
The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: “One who swears by a trust is not one of us.”
[Explanation:] Among the Arabs, swearing by a trust was common, just as it was to swear by fathers or mothers. Since treating trusts – that is, the Names of Allah – as objects of oath is not in accordance with Islam, the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: “One who swears by a trust is not one of us.” Meaning, he is not on our way.
