ZAKĀT SECTION · 35 – THINGS WHOSE WITHHOLDING IS NOT PERMISSIBLE

1669 – From a woman named Buḥaysa, from her father: Buḥaysa says: My father sought permission from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and entered between the Messenger of God’s (peace and blessings be upon him) (ample) shirt. He began to kiss and embrace the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Then my father said: “O Messenger of Allah, what is it that is not lawful to withhold and not give?” The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “It is water.” My father again asked, “O Messenger of Allah, what is it that is not lawful to withhold and not give?” The Messenger of God (peace and blessings be upon him) replied, “It is salt.” My father again asked, “O Messenger of Allah, what is it that is not lawful to withhold and not give?” The Messenger of God (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “Doing good is better for you.” [498]
