JIHAD SECTION · 91 – BURNING THE ENEMY'S TOWN IN WAR

It is narrated from Ibn ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered the burning and cutting down of the date palms of the Banu Nadir (Jews) at Bayra. The Most High, the Exalted, revealed the verse meaning: “What you cut down of the date palm trees or leave untended.” [425]

Urvah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated from Usamah (may Allah be pleased with him), who reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings upon him) instructed Usamah, “Make a dawn raid on Ubna and burn it.”
[Footnote: Ubna is a place between Remle and Ascalon.]

Abdullah ibn Amr al-Ghazzai reported that he heard someone asking about Ubna. Abu Mushir replied, “We know it better; it is the place of Ubna in Palestine.”
COMMENTARY:
