SACRIFICIAL SECTION · 16 – SLIGHTING A FALLEN ANIMAL
On the authority of Abu As-Sarrah, may Allah be pleased with him, he said:
“O Messenger of Allah, is it only permissible to slaughter an animal from the throat to its beginning?” The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Even if you wound it in the thigh, that suffices.”
Abu Dawud said: This is only permissible for an animal that has fallen from a height and become feral. [551]
EXPLANATION:
It is permissible to slaughter an animal from other than its throat in the following circumstances:
1. If an animal falls headfirst into a well, and it is not possible to slaughter it from the throat, then the blood should be allowed to flow from whichever part is accessible.
2. A dying animal whose head is stuck in mud may also be slaughtered in this manner.
It is not permissible to slaughter an animal from another part except in cases of necessity such as these.
