A person from among the companions of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said to Ubaydullah ibn Salman:

When we conquered Khaybar, people brought forth their spoils of war – both goods and captives – and were selling their gains to one another. A man said to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, “Today I have made a profit that no one among the people of this valley has made.”

The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said, "Woe to you! What did you gain?"

The man said, “I bought and sold continuously today. I gained three hundred *ukiyyah*."

The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Let me tell you about the most excellent of earnings a person can make.”

The man said, "What is that, O Messenger of Allah?"

The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “(Performing) two *nafl* prayers after the obligatory prayer."

EXPLANATION

*Ukiyyah*: This is a weight equivalent to what we call an *okka*. The quantities are not the same everywhere. In Shari'ah measure, one *ukiyyah* is equal to forty dirhams.
