3103 – It is narrated from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn ʿAwf (may Allah be pleased with him): He said, "I heard the Messenger of God (peace and blessings be upon him) say: 'If you hear that plague (ṭāʿūn – an epidemic disease) has broken out in a land, do not enter it; and if it occurs in a land where you are, do not leave it fleeing from it.'" [40]

EXPLANATION

This noble hadith indicates the principle of quarantine. Entering a place where the disease is present means exposing oneself to the illness, and leaving a place where the disease is present means spreading the microbe.
