Section 42: Directing that a woman whose husband has died be provided for with maintenance and lodging.
It is narrated from Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with him: The verse concerning inheritance, “And those of you who leave behind wives should provide for them during a year without they being put out (of their homes),” was abrogated by the determination of one-fourth and one-eighth as the shares ordained by Allah in the verse of inheritance; and likewise, the period of waiting (iddah) of one year was limited to four months and ten days through abrogation.
