THE DEAD CHAPTER · 79 – CHANGING A CORPSE'S GRAVE DUE TO AN INCIDENT
Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: "A person was buried alongside my father at Uhud, which caused me distress. After six months, I exhumed my father and found that his beard had not changed except for a few strands of soil that had fallen upon it."
COMMENTARY:
It is not permissible to exhume a deceased person from their grave or rebury them unless there is a compelling necessity. Allah the Exalted has forbidden the earth from consuming the bodies of prophets, sincere friends [of Allah], and those who memorize the Qur’an. The earth does not decompose their bodies. The father of Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) was among those martyred at Uhud. This blessed martyr was honored by being spared from decay as a reward for attaining the honor of martyrdom.
