JIHAD SECTION · 130 – RELEASING PRISONERS WITHOUT DEMAND
Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated:
Eighty men from the people of Mecca descended from Mount Tanim intending to kill the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, and his companions at the time of Fajr prayer. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, captured them as prisoners and released them. Then the Most High, the Almighty Allah, revealed Surat al-Fath (Victory), verse 24: “It is only that Allah has averted their hands from you and that the Meccans are averse to fighting you from within [the city].”
It is narrated from Jubayr ibn Mut’im, father of Muhammad ibn Jubayr:
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said concerning the captives of Badr, “If Mut’im ibn Adiy were alive and spoke to me about them, I would release them without ransom.” [472]
Explanation:
Netna: Meaning excessively foul-smelling. Either because the polytheists are considered impure or because they genuinely smelled from filth, thus was it said.
