Volume 3 – 83 – The Rush from Mina to Mecca During Hajj
From Ibn 'Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, it is narrated:
The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, arrived [in Mecca] on the day of Sacrifice (Eid al-Adha). Then he returned to Mina and performed the Dhuhr prayer in Mina.
Umm Salamah reported:
It was on the evening of an Eid day that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ spent a night with me. While the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was with me, a man from the family of Abu Umayya came to see him, wearing a shirt, accompanied by Wihb ibn Zama. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to Wihb: “O Abu Abdullah, did you descend [to Mecca]?” Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanded him, "Take off your shirt." He took it off from his back. His companion also took off his shirt from his head. Then Wihb said: “Why are we taking them off, O Messenger of Allah?” The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “Permission has been granted to you to leave ihram when you pelt the Jamarat on this day.” Meaning that everything forbidden to you in ihram, apart from women, is now permissible. He said: "Until you perform the tawaf of the Ka'bah, you are considered to be in ihram until you have finished pelting the Jamarat."
Ibn al-Qayyim Jawziyyah has stated that this narration is unsound because it contradicts a certain matter. Abu Hasan Gattan says that this narration is not authentic, because the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had performed the night tawaf as a visit during the day. (Bezlul Majhud, vol. 9, p. 331)
Aisha and Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with them both, narrated:
The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, postponed the obligatory circumambulation (tawaf) performed on the Day of Sacrifice to the night.
It is narrated from Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with him:
The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, did not perform the running (remal) during the seven circuits (required tawaf) when returning from Mecca.
