CHAPTER 12 – STICKING HAIR

Sünen-i Ebû Dâvûd Arapça hadis metni

Salim bin Abdullah, may Allah be pleased with him, reported from his father:

I saw the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, reciting the talbiyah in a loud voice while something had adhered his hair together. [529]

COMMENTARY

*Ihlal:* Raising the voice during the talbiyah.

*Telbit:* This is what those who intend to stay for a long time in ihram do, adhering their hair with an adhesive substance and matting it, so that dust and sand do not enter. This matter concerns men with long hair. As for women, because they have head coverings, the issue of dust and sand entering their hair is not relevant. The substance used by the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, to adhere his hair is recorded in some narrations as *Asal* (honey), and in others as *Gasel*. *Gasel* is a substance that removes dirt; if it is left on the hair without washing, it causes it to become matted.

Sünen-i Ebû Dâvûd Arapça hadis metni

From Ibn 'Umar, may Allah be pleased with him:

The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, applied honey to his hair.
