THE DEAD CHAPTER · 49 – WALKING BEFORE A CORPSE

Salim's father (Abdullah ibn Umar) related:
I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, Abu Bakr, and Umar walking ahead of a funeral procession.

Ziyad transmitted a hadith to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) wherein the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Those who walk behind a funeral procession are in its rear, while those on mounts are ahead; they walk near the funeral on its right and left. Prayer is performed for the stillborn, and supplication for mercy and forgiveness is made for their parents.” [94]
