CORPES EPISODE 6 – WALKING TO VISIT A PATIENT
Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: "When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings upon him) was sick, he would visit me on foot, without riding a camel or a donkey."
COMMENTARY:
The Prophet (peace and blessings upon him) visited Sa’d bin Ubadah while mounted on a riding animal. It is sunnah to go on foot rather than by mount when visiting the sick. Both of these actions are narrated from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings upon him).
Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated:
The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings upon him) said: “Whoever performs ablution in a beautiful manner, believing in its reward, and visits a sick Muslim brother, he is removed from the Fire by seventy years.”
I said, O Abu Hamza, what does ‘year’ mean here?
Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) said: It means year.
(Abu Dawud said: The visitation that the people of Basra relate singularly is the visitation while being in a state of ablution.)
According to a narration from Ali (may Allah be pleased with him), he said:
If any believer visits a sick believer in the evening, seventy thousand angels emerge with him, making supplication for him until morning, and he will have a garden in Paradise. If one visits the sick person in the morning, seventy thousand angels emerge with him, making supplication for him until evening, and he will have a garden in Paradise.
EXPLANATION
*Harif*: It signifies both year and also garden or orchard.
From Ali (may Allah be pleased with him): A report was transmitted with the same meaning as a hadith that passed from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings upon him). The narrator, A’mesh, did not mention the word “variant.”
Abu Dawud said: Mansur narrated this hadith to Shu'ba, who related it from Hakim, exactly as it was transmitted.
According to the narration of Abu Ja'far Abdullah ibn Nafi, may Allah be pleased with him, he said: Nafi was the servant of Hasan ibn Ali. Nafi said: Abu Musa visited Hasan ibn Ali while he was ill.
Abu Dawud said: The narrator directed the hadith in the meaning of Shu’ba’s hadith.
Abu Dawud said: This hadith has been presented as if it were a narration from the Messenger of Allah, sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, from Ali, may Allah be pleased with him, upon an unsound chain.
