THE DEAD CHAPTER · 81 – VISITING GRAVES

Abu Hurayra, may Allah be pleased with him, narrated:
The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, came to the grave of his mother. He wept, and he made those around him weep. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: “I asked permission from the Most High, may He be glorified, to supplicate for my mother, but it was not permitted to me. I asked permission to visit her grave, and it was permitted. Visit graves, for they remind one of death.” [132]

It was narrated from Ibn al-Buraida, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: “I forbade you from visiting graves, but now visit them.” He then said: "Indeed, in visiting graves there is a reminder and an admonition." [133]
