JIHAD SECTION · 128 – The Ruling on Killing a Captive by Tying Him to a Place
According to a narration from Ibrahim, he said:
Dahhak bin Kays wished to appoint Masruk as governor. 'Umar bin Ubayd said to him, "Are you appointing someone who remains of the killers of Uthman?"
Masruk responded to him, saying: According to information given to us by Abdullah bin Masruk, a trustworthy person, when the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, intended to kill your father, your father said, 'Who will care for my children?' The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, replied, "Fire." Masruk said: I have accepted that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, is pleased with you, so I am also pleased.

Just as 'Umar bin Ubayd accused Masruk, Masruk responded to him. The father of 'Umar, Ukba bin Mu'ayt, was the one who threw a camel’s bedding onto the back of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, during prayer before the Hijra. He had asked about who would care for his children when he was to be killed, and received the reply "Fire."
