Abu Sa’id al-Hudri, may Allah be pleased with him, narrated:

When death approached him, he requested new garments and put them on. Then he said: I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, say: “Indeed, the deceased will rise from his grave in the clothes he died in.”

COMMENTARY

The deceased being resurrected in the clothing he died in is a metaphor for being buried according to his deeds. In one narration, it is stated that a person will be resurrected in the shroud he was buried in. Another hadith states that people will be resurrected barefoot and with disheveled heads.

'Cudud' is the plural of 'jadid,' meaning ‘new.’
