Umm Atiyya (may Allah be pleased with her) related:
We were forbidden from following the funeral procession, but it was not strictly prohibited upon us.
COMMENTARY
Women have been discouraged from following funeral processions, but not with the same degree of discouragement as in other matters. Consequently, according to some scholars, this is considered undesirable (makruh) in a lenient sense. However, Hanafi jurists consider women following funeral processions to be strictly undesirable (tahrīman makrūh).
