3115 – It is narrated from Umm Salama (may Allah be pleased with her): The Messenger of God (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “When you are present with the deceased, speak good words. Indeed, the angels say ‘Amin’ to what you say.” When (my husband) Abū Salama died, I said, “O Messenger of Allah, what should I say?” The Messenger of God (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “O Allah, forgive him and grant us a righteous substitute after him.” Umm Salama said: “After the death of Abū Salama, Allah granted me Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) as a righteous husband.” [48]

EXPLANATION

This noble hadith indicates that it is recommended (mustahabb) for a woman whose husband has died to recite this supplication (dua). Speaking well after the deceased causes the angels to say ‘Amin.’ The supplication to which the angels say ‘Amin’ is, by Allah’s permission, accepted.
