CHAPTER · 47 – A MOUSE FALLS INTO THE OIL

Meymuna (may Allah be pleased with her) related:
News was brought to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings upon him) that a mouse had fallen into an oil jar. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings upon him) said, “Discard what is around where it fell, and eat the rest.”

Abū Hurayrah, may Allah be pleased with him, narrated that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: “If a mouse falls into oil, if the oil is congealed, discard the mouse and the area around where it fell. If it is liquid, do not approach it.” [462]
**EXPLANATION:**
If impure matter falls into clarified butter (sade yağ) and the butter is solid, its surroundings are cut away. If it is liquid, it is considered impure and must be purified.
Impure oil can be used as a lamp. Impure olive oil becomes pure if mixed with three times its volume of water and strained from above. There is no objection to using impure olive oil for light in a lamp or for making soap.

Maymunah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrated: A narration similar to the preceding hadith was related to me from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) through Zuhri from Ibn al-Musaib.
