Jabir ibn Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated:
I intended to go to Khaybar. I came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings upon him) and greeted him, and said, "I want to go to Khaybar." The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings upon him) said, “When you reach my representative in Khaybar, take fifteen *wasq* of dates from him.” And if your representative asks you for a sign regarding that you are my envoy, place your hand on his collarbone (this will be a secret between us).”
COMMENTARY:
*Terguwa*: This means the collarbone. This hadith provides evidence that it is desirable for there to be a sign and a secret code between an agent and his principal. The secret code between the Messenger of Allah and his representative in Khaybar was that my envoy would place his hand on the representative’s collarbone.
