SECTION ON BEVERAGES · 20 – BLOWING INTO A DRINK AND BREATHING INTO IT
It is narrated from Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with him, that he said:
The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, forbade blowing into vessels used for drinking.
It is narrated from Abdullah bin Busr of the tribe of Banu Suleym, may Allah be pleased with him, that he said:
The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, visited my father and was his guest.
My father brought food to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him. The narrator also mentioned that my father brought him a dish called "hays." Then, sherbet (a sweetened drink) was brought to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him. He drank the sherbet and offered it to someone on his right. Afterwards, he spat seven pits from dates between his index finger and middle finger. When the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, stood up, my father also stood up. He grasped the reins of his camel and said, "Pray for me." The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: “O Lord, bless this provision You have given them, forgive them, and have mercy on them.” [404]
Note: Hays: A dessert made from dates and cheese. It is called "höşmelim" in Turkey.
