According to the report from Jabir ibn Zayd and Ikrimah, may Allah be pleased with them both, they would consider objectionable the drink made solely from dried dates, and they derived this ruling from Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with him. Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with him, said: “I fear that the drink of dried dates might be *mizza*, which the people of ‘Abd al-Qays were forbidden.” Hisham said: I asked Katadah, "What is *mizza*?" He replied, "It is a drink prepared in a vessel coated with pitch and glazed earthenware."
