CHAPTER · 38 – Eating Cheese
‘Abdullah ibn ‘Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, narrated:
That at Tabuk, cheese was brought to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him. He asked for a knife, recited Bismillah, and cut the cheese.
COMMENTARY
This honorable hadith indicates that there is no objection to the rennet used in making cheese being derived from the dried membranes of dead lambs and calves, and that cheese itself is permissible.
