SECTION · 32 – EATING THE MEAT OF PREDATORY ANIMALS
3802 – It is narrated from Abū Salama al-Ḥushani (may Allah be pleased with him): The Messenger of God (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade eating every animal of prey among the predatory animals that possesses a tearing tooth." [440]
3803 – It is narrated from Ibn ʿAbbās (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: The Messenger of God (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade eating those among the wild animals that possess a tearing tooth and those among the birds that possess a predatory talon. [441]
3804 – From Miqdām ibn Maʿdī Karib (may Allah be pleased with him): It is narrated from the Messenger of God (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said: "Behold! It is not permissible to eat those among the predatory animals that possess a tearing tooth, nor domesticated donkeys, nor what is dropped by those with whom you have a treaty, except in case of necessity. If a person visits a tribe as a guest and they do not host him, then just as they met him, he has the right to take recompense from them."
EXPLANATION
It is a duty to show hospitality to a guest. The guest has the right to eat from what is prepared that day, as if he were a member of the household. If nothing is offered to the guest, it is stated that he has the right to take something from them in return, even if it is raw. This noble hadith indicates the importance of hospitality to guests.
3805 – It is narrated from Ibn ʿAbbās (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: On the day of the expedition to Khaybar, the Messenger of God (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade eating the meat of those among the wild animals that possess a tearing tooth and those among the birds that possess a tearing talon. [442]
3806 – It is narrated from Khālid ibn al-Walīd (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: I went to the expedition of Khaybar with the Messenger of God (peace and blessings be upon him). The Jews came and complained that the people were plundering their sheep. Thereupon, the Messenger of God (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Behold! It is not permissible to eat the property of those with whom you have a treaty except by lawful means. The meat of domesticated donkeys, horses, and domesticated mules, and every predatory animal with a tearing tooth among the predatory animals, and every bird with a predatory talon among the birds, are forbidden."
3807 – Jābir ibn ʿAbdullāh: The Messenger of God (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade consuming the price of a cat. Among the narrators, Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd al-Malik said: The Messenger of God (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade eating cat meat and consuming the price of a cat. [443]
