CHAPTER 21 – HADITH ON EATING MEAT
Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrated: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings upon him) said: “Do not cut meat with a knife. This is the practice of foreigners. Tear it piece by piece with your teeth, for it is more delicious, easier to digest, and sweeter.”
Abu Dawud said: This hadith is weak.
Saffan ibn Umayya, may Allah be pleased with him, narrated:
I was eating with the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, and I would take the meat from the bone and eat it. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: “Bring the bone closer to your mouth (and tear at it) for that is more delicious and more beneficial.”
Abu Dawud said: I have not heard this hadith from Osman Safwan. Therefore, it is mursal.
Abdullah ibn Mas’ud, may Allah be pleased with him, narrated:
The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, preferred among bones, the bone containing meat from a sheep.
EXPLANATION
Urak: The plural of “urk,” meaning meaty bones. It is also referred to as the arm bone of an animal.
Abu Dawud transmitted it with the same chain of narration as the preceding hadith. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, liked the parts of animals. He believed that the Jews had poisoned him with a limb.
