CHAPTER 1 – Hadiths Regarding Responding to Invitations
Abdullah ibn Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, narrated: "The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: 'Whenever one of you is invited to a gathering, let him go immediately.'"
According to a narration from Ibn ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings upon him) said: He stated in the same meaning as the preceding hadith. However, the phrase, “If one who comes to an invitation (a wedding feast) is not fasting, let him eat. And if he is fasting, let him supplicate,” is extraneous.
It is narrated from Ibn ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings upon him) said: “If one of you is invited by his brother to a wedding or something similar, he should accept the invitation.”
Nafi (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated, relating through the same chain of narration as in the preceding hadith, and it was reported upon the same meaning.
Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings upon him) said: "When someone is invited to a feast, he should respond promptly. Then, if he wishes, he may sit and eat, or refrain."
Abdullah ibn Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, narrated that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: “Whoever is invited to a feast and refuses, he has disobeyed Allah and His Messenger. And whoever enters without being invited, he has entered as a thief and left as one who plunders.”
Abu Dawud said: The identity of Iban ibn Tariq is unknown.
Abu Hurayra, may Allah be pleased with him, narrated: “The most evil of foods is a feast to which the rich are invited and the poor are not. Whoever refuses an invitation has disobeyed Allah and His Messenger.”
