SECTION · 42 – Narrations Regarding Not Benefiting from the Skin of a Dead Animal

It is narrated from Abdullah bin Ukeym, may Allah be pleased with him, that a letter from the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, was read to us in the land of Juhayna. I was at that time a young boy. He (the Prophet) was saying: “Do not benefit from the skin and sinews of dead animals.”

From Hakim ibn Utaiba, and a group with him:
They came to Abdullah ibn Ukaim of the Banu Juhayna tribe. Hakim said: “They entered, and I sat at the door. Then they came up to me.”
They narrated that Abdullah ibn Ukaim informed them that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had written a letter to the Banu Juhayna tribe, one month before his death: "Do not benefit from the skin and sinews of dead animals."
Abu Dawud said: Nadr ibn Shumayl said: Before tanning, it is called *ihab*. After tanning, it is called *shenna* and *kirba*.
