The Obligation of Istinja for Discharge and Impurity

It is obligatory to perform istinja for all things that come out from the front or back, such as urine, small amounts of liquid, blood, pus, and hair. Five things come out from the front. The first is bevil (urine). The second is mezid. When it is played with, it gives pleasure and when one is excited by seeing or thinking of someone, it is a thin, white liquid that comes. Its ruling is the same as bevil, even washing the private parts and the body for prayer is required. Because the semen is not thin, and it is necessary to wash the front part of the private area and take a full ablution for prayer.

The third is vedid. It is a liquid that comes after a small amount of liquid has been released, and it is close to white. Its ruling is the same as bevil. The fourth is mani. It is a white liquid that comes out with great pleasure during ejaculation or sexual intercourse. Sometimes it is yellow. If ejaculation is frequent, it becomes red. Sometimes, when it is weak or according to the body’s condition, it becomes thin, like water.

Mani has its own distinct smell, similar to the smell of dough. It is identified by this. When mani is released, it is necessary to take a full ablution. Women’s mani is thin and yellow. The fifth is yel. It comes from the back, but rarely from the front.

The Way to Perform Ghusl

Whoever wants to perform ghusl should intend to purify themselves from janabah. It is better to say this intention aloud. Take water with the name of Allah, and if the water is collected in the place where you are washing, you should wash only your feet and take a full ablution. Then, pour water over your head three times, thoroughly wetting the roots of your hair. Starting from the right side, pour water over the rest of your body, using both hands to wash every part of your body. Pay close attention to making sure the water reaches all the joints and every part of the body. Because our Prophet (peace be upon him) said: «Make your hair smooth and mix it, and purify the outside of your skin, because there is a state of janabah in the root of each hair».

Then, wash both feet while moving away from the place where you are washing. If during ghusl, nothing breaks the ablution, then one can pray with this ablution. Because we consider that there is no small or large impurity left after this ghusl. If during ghusl, something breaks the ablution, then it is necessary to take a separate ablution for prayer. The original and truth of this ghusl is as reported from Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), that our Prophet (peace be upon him) would wash his hands three times, take water with his right hand and pour it into his left hand, then he would give water three times to his mouth and nose, wash his face three times, his arms three times each, and then wash his feet after leaving the place where he was washing.

Ghusl Ablution and Prayer

When performing ghusl, washing the private parts, making the intention, and giving water to the mouth and nose, along with washing the entire body, purifies one from janabah. Because giving water to the mouth and nose is obligatory in ghusl ablution. In ablution, there are two reports. Here, the correct one is that it is also obligatory in ablution, as it is in ghusl. It is not permissible to pray with ghusl ablution in the second way. However, if someone does not take ghusl ablution like a regular ablution, but instead washes their mouth, nose, and entire body, and makes the intention for ghusl ablution as well as for prayer ablution, then prayer is permissible. In this case, the parts left in the ablution are fulfilled due to the intention. Therefore, if there is no intention, the ablution is not considered to have been performed, and the prayer is not valid. Because our Prophet (peace be upon him) said: «Prayer without ablution is not valid». He declared that the one who does not have ablution also does not have prayer.

Duas to be Recited While Taking Ablution

1 — Bismillâhil azim. Vel-hamdü Iillahi alâ dinil-islâm. Ve alâ tevfiqil imân. Elhamdü lillahillezi ce’alel mde tahdren ve ce’alel islüme nüren. After reciting this dua, I wash my hands three times up to my wrists.

2 — Then, with my right hand, I give water to my mouth three times, and while doing so, I recite: TUM : Allahu mmeskıni min havdi nebiyyike ke’sen lâ ezmeu ba’dehü ebeden.

3 — With my right hand, I give water to my nose three times, and with my left hand, I blow it out. While giving water to my nose, I recite: Allahümme erihni râyihatel cenneti verzukni min naimihâ. Ve lâ turihni râyihaten-nâr.

4 — I take water in my palms, and while washing my face from my eyebrows down to under my chin, I recite: Allahümme beyyid vechi binürike yevme tebyaddü vücühü evliyâike ve lâ tüsevvid vechi bizünübi yevme tesveddü vücühü a’ddike.

5 — While washing my left arm up to my elbow three times, I recite: Allahümme âtini kitâbi biyemini ve hâsibni hisGben yesiren.

6 — This time, with my right arm, I wash my left arm (three times) up to my elbow (including the elbow), saying: Allahümme lâ tu’tini kitâbi bisimGli ve tâ min verâi zahri ve lâ tühâsibni hisâben şediden.

Rules of Dressing

Clothes are of four kinds: It is forbidden upon every obligated person. It is forbidden upon some people, but not forbidden upon others. Clothes that are disliked to wear. Clothes that are permissible to wear.

Clothes that are forbidden upon every obligated person are those that are taken by force or by blowing. Clothes that are forbidden upon some people and not forbidden upon others are those made from fabric woven with pure silk. It is permissible for women, but forbidden for men. There are two reports regarding wearing silk clothes on small children.

It is disliked to wear clothes that are long enough to reach the level of pride and self-conceit. Similarly, clothes woven with half silk and half cotton, or clothes where it is unknown whether silk or cotton is more or less, are also disliked. The most correct thing is to wear clothes similar to those worn by the people of one’s country. One should not differ from them. In this way, one avoids being spoken about and being the subject of backbiting among people.

Rules of Sleeping

Whoever intends to sleep should cover the top of the water container, extinguish the lamp, close the door, and if there is a smell of food remaining in his mouth, he should wash it to prevent insects from entering, recite the basmala, and then it is a sunnah to recite completely the words reported by Abu Duwud from Said bin Ubaydah: «Allahümme inni eslemtü vechi ileyke».
