LEGAL SECTION · 5 – THE LEGAL STATUS OF STATE EMPLOYEES RECEIVING GIFTS

Adiy ibn Umayr al-Kindani, may Allah be pleased with him, narrated that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: “O people, whoever is entrusted by us with a task and conceals even a needle from it, he will come with it on the Day of Resurrection.” Then an Ansari man, dark in complexion, stood up – I see him now. He said: "Messenger of Allah, relieve me of the responsibility you have given me." The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, asked him, “What caused you to say this?” The man replied, “I heard you saying such and such.” The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Yes, I still say it. Whoever we entrust with a task must bring both the little and the much of what was given to him. He should take his wage for the work, but not take that which is forbidden."
