4057 – It is narrated from ʿAlī ibn Abī Ṭālib (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: The Messenger of God (peace and blessings be upon him) took a piece of silk and placed it on his right, and took some gold and placed it on his left. Then he said: “These two things are forbidden for the males of my ummah.” [593]

4058 – It is narrated from Anas ibn Mālik (may Allah be pleased with him): Anas saw on Umm Kulthūm, the daughter of the Messenger of God (peace and blessings be upon him), a garment with horizontal stripes of silk. The narrator said: The word siyera in the text means: striped with silk in a way resembling rib bones. [594]

4059 – Jābir (may Allah be pleased with him) said: “We would remove silk garments from the boys and put them on the girls.” Misʿar said: I asked ʿAmr ibn Dīnār (one of the narrators) about this hadith, but he could not recall it.

EXPLANATION

The two aforementioned hadiths indicate that silk is permissible for women and forbidden for men.
