CHAPTER 13 – THE CONSEQUENCES OF EATING A MEAL UPON WHICH ONE IS UNEXPECTEDLY INTRUDED

Jabir ibn Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated:
The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings upon him) came towards us from a mountain pass having relieved himself. There were dates on a shield or a Hajafa (shield) before him. We invited him, and he ate with us but did not use any water (did not wash his hands).
COMMENTARY:
If someone encounters a table and is sincerely invited, there is no objection to sitting and eating. But if one arrives suddenly at a home, the household may be in difficulty. A person intending to visit should strive to go on time. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings upon him) had relieved himself and was unexpectedly invited to eat. He ate without renewing his ablution.
