CHAPTER · 42 – When eating dates, one must examine them for worms.


Anas ibn Malik, may Allah be pleased with him, narrated: A dried date was brought to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him. He began to examine it carefully in order to remove the weevils that were within it.


It is related from Ishaq ibn Abdullah ibn Abu Talha, may Allah be pleased with him:
Sometimes dates containing worms were brought to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, and [he would then repeat the meaning of the preceding hadith].


‘Abdullah ibn ‘Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, narrated:
The Messenger of Allah, ﷺ, forbade eating dates in company (with others) except two or three at a time. Unless the companion permits it, he said.
