3868 – It is narrated from Jābir ibn ʿAbd Allāh (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: The Messenger of God (peace and blessings be upon him) was asked about incantations (efsun). The Messenger of God (peace and blessings be upon him) replied, “It is one of the works of Satan.”
EXPLANATION
Incantations performed during the Age of Ignorance by invoking the names of jinn are the works of Satan, but seeking healing by reciting the Fātiḥa, Falaq, and Nās surahs (incantation is permissible).
