The ITK (AZAT) Section · 8 – Freeing Female Slaves Who Bear Children for Their Masters

Salama bint Ma'kil (may Allah be pleased with her) said: In the pre-Islamic period, my uncle sold me to Hubab ibn Amr, brother of Abu al-Yasar ibn Amr. I gave birth to Abdurrahman ibn Hubab from him. Then Hubab died. His wife then said: "By Allah, you will sell this slave girl in return for Hubab's debt." So I came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: “O Messenger of Allah, I am from the Kays tribe of the Harith branch. My uncle brought me to Medina in the pre-Islamic period and sold me to Hubab ibn Amr, brother of Abu al-Yasar ibn Amr. I gave birth to Abdurrahman ibn Hubab from him. His wife says: 'By Allah, you will sell this slave girl in return for Hubab's debt.'"
The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Who is the guardian of Hubab?" It was replied: “He is his brother, Abu al-Yasar ibn Amr.” The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) then sent a message to him saying: "Manumit this slave girl, and when you hear of slaves coming to me, come to me." She said: "They manumitted me." Then some slaves came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). As compensation for my manumission, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) gave them a slave.

According to the narration of Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him), he said:
During the time of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him), we used to sell slave girls who had children. Then, during the caliphate of Umar ibn al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him), he forbade us from doing so. So we ceased selling slave girls who had children.
