3818 – It is narrated from Ibn ʿUmar (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of God (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “I desired to have white bread made from brown wheat, softened with milk and butter, present with me.” One person from the congregation stood up, spread butter and milk over white bread made from brown wheat flour, and brought it to the Messenger of God (peace and blessings be upon him). The Messenger of God (peace and blessings be upon him) said, (disliking the smell of the butter), “In what was this (butter) kept?” That person said, “It was in a waterskin made from the skin of a lizard.” Thereupon the Messenger of God (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “Remove this.” Abū Dāwūd said: This hadith is munkar (denounced). The Ayyūb mentioned in the hadith is not Ayyūb al-Sakhtiyānī.

EXPLANATION

The Messenger of God (peace and blessings be upon him) did not eat the butter kept in lizard skin and did not like its smell.
