MEDICINE SECTION · 17 – WEARING AMULETS

3883 – It is narrated from ʿAbdullāh ibn Masʿūd (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: I heard the Messenger of God (peace and blessings be upon him) say: “Incantations, amulets, beads, and love charms made for the purpose of love are shirk (shirk – associating partners with God).” Zaynab, the wife of Ibn Masʿūd, said: Why do you say this to my master? By Allah, my eye would water and discharge (and twitch constantly), so I used to go to such-and-such a Jewess, and she would perform an incantation for me. When she performed the incantation, the twitching of my eye would stop. ʿAbdullāh ibn Masʿūd said: The twitching of your eye is the work of the shayṭān (Satan). The shayṭān pokes your eye with his hand, and when the Jewess performs the incantation, the shayṭān refrains from poking it. When you feel such pain, it is sufficient for you to say as the Messenger of God (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “(O Lord of mankind [Allah], remove the harm and grant healing, for You are the Healer. There is no healing except Your healing, a healing that leaves behind no illness. Only You can grant it.)” [492]

3884 – It is narrated from ʿImrān ibn Ḥuṣayn (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of God (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “There is no (beneficial effect) in the method of healing by recitation except in the case of the evil eye and poisonous stings.” [493]
EXPLANATION
This noble hadith indicates that incantations performed with verses (āyāt) and supplications (duʿāʾ) are beneficial in removing the effect of the evil eye and the poison of venomous creatures such as snakes and scorpions.
