Drinks Section · 3 – Making Vinegar from Wine

Anas ibn Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) related:
Abu Talha asked the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings upon him) about the situation of orphans who inherit intoxicants. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings upon him) commanded him to pour it out. Abu Talha said, "Can I make vinegar from it?" The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings upon him) replied, “No.”
COMMENTARY:
This honorable hadith indicates that adding salt to intoxicants to make them into vinegar is not permissible.
The schools of thought of Ash-Shafi’i and Ahmad ibn Hanbal are also in agreement with this. Imam Malik says, "I see no objection to consuming wine that has turned into vinegar." This is the sound opinion among the Hanafi school and amongst the Shafi'is.
